The project was to build the
garage/shop to store building material and tools
for the construction of the
cabin. Perry designed the barn style garage
and produced the bill-of-materials. The excavation work was accomplished with
Chuck's tractor. The foundation footing was pored with a cement mixer
attachment on the tractor and the stem walls were built with cinder block.
The garage floor was also poured by the cement mixer attachment on the tractor,
and a host of friends, Sid and Joyce Brewer, Ken Wilson, Ted Wilson, Floyd
Wilson, Chuck Pardue,
Kodi, and Kris labored
for four weekends to finish the floor. Walls, roof truss, and felt paper
covered the building for winter.

We started breaking ground for the garage/shop building. Chuck and I used his tractor to do the work. We worked clearing the necessary trees. Kodi and Kris started on the fire pit. The hole was four feet around and three feet deep. A peace of four foot galvanized culvert was used for the fire ring. The excavation work was completed. The garage location was leveled for the foundation footing. Bob Obermeyer dug the foundation footing with his backhoe. Ray, Kodi's dad, found a cement mixer that, after major work, fit Chuck's tractor. Ray and Kel, Kodi's brother, has to do some major welding work to make it fit the tractor. The mixer was a 2/3 yards mixer and ran off the PTO. Kodi, Kris, Chuck, and I shoveled the gravel mix to pore 8 years of concrete for the foundation. It went well and we were able to finish the foundation in two weekends. Cinder block was delivered and Kodi and I started laying the 580 blocks that would service as the bearing wall footings. Kodi and I spent several weekends working on laying the cinder block. We were using Allan's well until Wes Phillips drilled our well. Chuck, Allan Harms, and I lowered the 1.5 horse pump. The well tested 17 gallons per minute with a static level at 30 feet. In late September, we were able to finish the cinder block. We filled the block opening with concert and finish the out side with waterproof sealant. The job Kodi hated. We finished the back storage room foundation and laid the cinder block. We used Chuck's tractor to pour the foundation. The shop floor had a 4" ABS pipe vacuum system. Perry designed the vacuum system to be out of the way for the tools. Finishing the building was left for the next summer. Winter was just around the corner.
